Charlie is autistic and has childhood apraxia of speech. Hockey—and especially goalies—became a place where she could connect, cheer loudly in her own way and feel understood.

Charlie is autistic and has Childhood Apraxia of Speech. She may communicate through speech, AAC, gestures, pictures and actions—and every one of those ways is meaningful. Her love of goalies opened doors to friendships, books, videos and adventures her family never expected.
A child does not need to speak, play hockey or reach milestones on someone else’s schedule to have a meaningful and exciting future. Notice what brings them joy. Support it, explore it and see where it leads.
